La
Giralda
The Giralda,is a famous bell tower located at
the Cathedral of Seville. It is one of the best examples of Moore
architecture. Built in 1184 as the minaret of the mosque (this
has been destroyed) of Seville, the square tower stands at about
197 feet high .It was added in 1568 by a Renaissance cupola, it
was designed by Hernan Ruize, which houses the cathedral bell.
The name "La Giralda" comes from the weathervane also
known as the giraldillo, that stands at the top of the tower in
the form of a figure representing Faith. The total height of the
tower, including cupola and weathervane, is 97 m (320 ft).
